Currently on offer are Greater Dog Star, Sirius Talismans! They are excellent for receiving recognition, attention, honors, wealth, and fostering peace among loved ones. These are the most powerful talismans that I have available and there are only TEN. Being conjoined Jupiter, Sirius talismans of this strength and caliber cannot be replicated for roughly another 12 years. Inside the reliquary is a juniper berry, dried wormwood, dragonwort, and mugwort. Additionally, a carnelian chip was placed within to honor the Martial aspect of Sirius; all true to the traditional sources. Each reliquary comes with a free 12″ stainless steel chain.
About Sirius
The Fixed Star Sirius, also known as the Greater Dog Star, is revered in many cultures and religions. In Ancient Greek mythos, it is the hunting hound of Orion and a harbinger of heat and burning winds. This is actually where we get the term “dog days of summer” because of Sirius’ heliacal rise in the northern hemisphere during the peak of summer. The native Hawaiians called the star Ka’ulua (Queen of Heaven) and venerated its culmination as the winter solstice. Throughout ancient Scandinavia, it was known as Lokabrenna (Loki’s Torch). The Egyptians called it Sopdet, the goddess of the Nile floods, who was the predecessor for the deity known as Isis. For it was during Sirius/Sopdet’s rising that the Nile traditionally brought about the floods in the plains of Egypt and left nutrient rich silt upon the land.
Fixed stars are distinct in the way that they are outside of planetary influence. Because the fixed stars are located outside of the planetary spheres, they beam their virtues to us on the earthly plane through the planets. When describing the fixed stars, Ptolemy in Tetrabiblos attributes Sirius as “of those in Canis, the others like that of Venus, and the bright star in the mouth [Sirius], like that of Jupiter and, to a less degree, of Mars.” Stars of Jovial and Martial nature, pronounce and indicate royalty, leadership, and authority. In his own treatise, Agrippa further describes how fixed stars present themselves in the celestial: “Hence as often as any Planet is joyned with any of the fixt stars of its own nature, the signification of that star is made more powerful, and the nature of the Planet augmented..”
Sirius here is conjoined Jupiter and therefore takes on the attributes and virtues of him. Agrippa goes on to say,
“it [Sirius] bestoweth honor and good will, and the favor of men, and Aerial spirits, and giveth power to pacifie and reconcile Kings, Princes, and other men.”
Colors associated with Sirius are blue, blue-green, and white but red and crimson are also appropriate when petitioning it’s more Martial side.
The book Liber Enoch of the De Quindecim Stellis manuscripts says this about Sirius:
“[Sirius] The fifth star is Canis Major. It is great, white and bigger than the rest: its power is greater
than others, and it is in the 4th degree of Cancer. It is of the nature of Jupiter and Mars, and is of great fortune.
Through it is the state of the world oft altered to mildness or harshness, to good or to evil. And if anyone
should be born when it abideth on the ascendant or midheaven, he will be well-fortunate, especially if
the Moon [or] the Part of Fortune should be [with it]: a ring being made or a form being graven or
described under the same will be well-fortunate. Its stone is Beryl, which is clear as Crystal or sea-water
or the color of oil, and it ought to have angles in which appeareth its clarity. Its virtue is to cause him
that beareth it to be loved, and it imposeth peace among kings. When the Moon is with Canis Major,
then is its strength the greater: thou wilt fashion an engraving thereof when the Moon and Jupiter are
with it. Its herb is Savin. A bit of this and bit of Mugwort, Dragonwort and the tongue of a Serpent wilt
thou put beneath Beryl, when the Moon is with Canis Major. He who beareth this hath the favor of spirits
and the power to make peace among the great and between husbands and wives.”
Though Jovial by nature, these talismans were created during January and I felt a wintery theme was more appropriate for this aspect of Sirius. Therefore, to offer are silver reliquary-type designs with blue beryl (aquamarine) shards, instead of heliodor which is the yellow form of beryl.
The Election
For fixed star elections, the Star in question must be either rising or culminating and have a conjunction with the Moon. The waxing Moon is placed upon the Ascendant, rising in Cancer which is her own house, and is moreover dignified by triplicity. With her rises within a single degree of the bright Dog-Star Sirius, and both are joined to Jupiter, who holds his exaltation here, though moving by retrograde motion. The retrogradation of Jupiter may be less than favorable but his angularity, essential dignity, and conjunction with Sirius (which is of his own nature) strengthens him. William Lilly, in his Christian Astrology 1647, has this to say about this situation:
“Besides, usually when the [Moon] applies to a good aspect of a Retrograde Planet, it brings the
matter to an end one way or another speedily, and when least suspected: and it’s a general
Maxim in such like cases, if the [Moon] apply to the Fortunes, or by good aspect to any Planet or
Planets in Angles, then there is reason we hope well.”
All three stars are strong and fortunate, neither corrupted by the malefics nor impeded by their aspects.
The Ritual
Since the fixed star invocations have been lost to time, I used the method popularized by renowned astrologer, Kaitlyn Coppock; using the Orphic Hymn to Astron and substituting Sirius as the subject called. Upon the altar were placed: blue and white candles inscribed with the sigil of Sirius, the empty vessels, silver and tin cups and dishes, an ethically sourced coyote hide, and a large aquamarine slab.
A prayer to God and the reading of Psalm 91 was read for protection. Then, the Orphic Hymn to Sirius was sang and a meditation to follow. After carving the sigil of Sirius into the talismans at exactly 3:23PM and suffumigating each phylactery, a special prayer to Sirius was read as well as a reading of Daniel 2:20-23. The work was then complete and a prayer to God was offered for thanks and praise as well as the spirits of Sirius.
The Greater Dog-Star awaits her journey– to you.
