Currently available are Greater Venus in Taurus talismans, created with the intention of bringing their owners luxury, physical love, prosperity, and success in business ventures. These talismans will be especially beneficial for those with Venus in Pisces, Libra, or Taurus, and for those with Venus placed in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 10th, or 11th houses. Unless you regularly practice extensive astrological remediation, I do not recommend this talisman for those with Venus in Aries, Virgo, or Scorpio.

For over 1,500 years, Venus has been known as the Lesser Benefic. God set her angels aside to be the bestower of divine favor, the reconciler of enemies, the patroness of beauty, pleasure, fertility, music, friendship, and all forms of human affection. Where Jupiter grants abundance through providence and grace, Venus grants delight through attraction, harmony, and desire. She gathers together what has been divided and softens what has become hard.

In this election, Venus is not only in her own domicile of Taurus, but is joined by an exalted waxing Moon, while both cast their regard toward an exalted Jupiter in Cancer. The Sun, too, is in his exaltation. For this reason I have named this collection The Three Graces. In the Hellenistic and Medieval astrological tradition these three planets—Sun, Jupiter, and Venus—were regarded as the great beneficent powers of heaven. Mercury and the Moon served as the celestial messengers, while Mars and Saturn were counted among the malefics. This ancient classification heavily influenced the image chosen for these talismans.

Within the Western image magic tradition, images of Venus have been fashioned for centuries to ease menstrual suffering, gladden the hearts of the melancholy, increase vigor in love, reconcile those at odds, and miraculously foster affection and goodwill between people. The Picatrix even specifies that one of the conditions for creating an “image for enduring love” is for Venus and the Moon to rise together in Taurus.

The image engraved on the reverse of these talismans depicts three people embracing one another. The Picatrix prescribes this very figure for prosperity:

“From the forms of Venus, inscribe on a stone of crystal the figure of three people joined to one another. Whosoever carries this figure will be fortunate in commerce and make great profit from it.” (Attrell & Porreca translation)

The Moon’s presence in Taurus is especially fortunate, for Venus and the Moon share many natural virtues. Both are cold and moist in temperament, both preside over fertility, women, nourishment, and generation. Venus governs desire, pleasure, concord, and the power that binds living things together, while the Moon governs growth, incarnation, fertility, and the ebb and flow of earthly life. Their union in Taurus creates one of the most naturally fruitful and life-giving combinations found in traditional astrology.

The green stone used for these talismans was chosen with intention. Green has long been the sacred color of Venus, who rules over green places, flourishing gardens, fertile fields, and verdant stones. The fifteenth-century physician and philosopher Marsilio Ficino describes the Venusian virtue of green things beautifully in Three Books on Life:

“…the nature of green things, for so long as they stay green, is not only alive but even youthful and abounding with very salubrious humor and a lively spirit; and because of this a certain youthful spirit flows to us through the odor, sight, use, and frequent habitation of and in them.”

From Late Antiquity through the Renaissance, the principal gemstone of Venus was called smaragdus. Although modern translators often render this simply as “emerald,” the medieval smaragdus more commonly referred to a family of green stones, including green jasper, chrysoprase, aventurine, and other richly colored green minerals. This broader understanding better reflects the lapidary tradition from which these talismans descend.

Taurus itself is among the most fertile signs of the zodiac. Governed by Venus, it signifies abundance, cultivation, pleasure, livestock, gardens, orchards, wealth acquired through the earth, and all things that increase through steady care rather than sudden fortune. It delights in beauty that can be touched, food that can be tasted, music that can be heard, and craftsmanship that can endure. As a fixed earth sign, Taurus gives permanence and stability to whatever it receives. Where Venus in Libra perfects relationships through balance and diplomacy, Venus in Taurus seeks to preserve what is good, nourishing, and beautiful. It is therefore especially suited for talismans intended to establish lasting love, enduring prosperity, stable households, and businesses that grow steadily over time.

The Election

Venus, dignified by domicile and triplicity, rises in her own planetary hour in the sign of Taurus, where she is joined by the waxing Moon exalted in the same sign. Together they cast a sextile by sign to Jupiter, who is himself exalted in Cancer. The Sun is likewise exalted. By every major criterion given in the traditional authorities, the requirements for an exceptionally benefic Venus talisman have been fulfilled.

The greatest challenge in this election is that Venus occupies the face and bound of Saturn. Fortunately, this is substantially mitigated by her conjunction with an exalted waxing Moon, whose presence strengthens Venus considerably. Some may also hesitate upon seeing Mars conjoined Saturn. However, this conjunction occurs in the cadent twelfth house, a place both weak and averse to the Ascendant. Their ability to interfere with the talisman’s operation is therefore greatly diminished. Taken as a whole, the figure overwhelmingly favors Venusian virtues, allowing the beneficence of Venus, the Moon, Jupiter, and the exalted Sun to predominate.

The Ritual

The ritual was conducted during Venus hour however, for 7 days prior, I remained chaste and fasted during daylight hours. After ritually cleansing myself and putting on my most expensive jewelry, perfumes, and oils, an altar of deep green velvet was made up with 2 blue candles with the seal of Venus inscribed and the sigil of her planetary spirits. Sat before the altar were materia of Venereal nature: plum wine, a brass bell, a brass and enamel mirror and comb, a sphere of green jasper, a bronze swallow statue, a fishnet vase, a piece of red coral, colorful flowers, and a personification of Venus. Among the offerings were pears, apples, cheese, eggs, and bread. With candles lit and the first cast of suffumigation made up of myrrh, saffron, poppyseed, labdanum, mastic, and willow, a prayer to God was offered up. 

Then, the reading of Psalm 91 for protection, Song of Solomon 2:10–13, 1 Corinthians 13, Deuteronomy 8:18, Proverbs 3:9–10 all for love and wealth. The Archangel of Venus, Haniel was then called upon along with the angel of Taurus, Asmodel. With their spirits present, the Orphic Hymn to Venus was sung and the Intelligence of Venus was invoked. 

Afterward, a Venus prayer from the Picatrix was read.

After praying and meditating further, the blank aventurine pendants were engraved at exactly 07:50AM/CST with the powers of Venus and the image of three figures holding each other. 

Upon completion of the engraving, more suffumigation was added and each talisman was wrapped in white silk strips and suffumigated individually while a third and final prayer to Venus was offered up.

The guardians, angels, and spirits were thanked, a prayer was offered up to God once more, giving thanks. The pendants, now planetary talismans of Venus, were left until the suffumigation burned out. They were then covered in a green cloth and moved into a mirror lined box for storage to await the next stage of their journey, to you.
